Die Toten Hosen in Munich — a Fantastic Farewell on Hans-Jochen-Vogel-Platz

Concert report — on 8 July 2026 Die Toten Hosen played Munich's Olympiapark on their "Trink aus, wir müssen gehen" tour. For the first time not inside the stadium, but in front of it. Support: Pascow and Donots.

For me it was a first: never before had I experienced a Toten Hosen concert not inside the Olympiastadion, but right in front of it. Because the stadium is currently being renovated, the show on 8 July 2026 took place on Hans-Jochen-Vogel-Platz — the former Coubertinplatz — in the middle of the Olympiapark, right next to the Olympiasee.

To be honest, I went in with a few concerns. Two things in particular were on my mind: how would the acoustics work on an open-air site, and how tightly packed would it get with a sold-out crowd? But right at the entrance I was proven wrong. Getting in was extremely quick — no long queue, no crush — and moving around the site itself was surprisingly easy. Any worry about an unmanageable crowd was gone in no time.

Early on I tried my luck and went for a wristband for the area right in front of the stage. And lo and behold — I actually got lucky. Wristband collected, a drink quickly sorted out, and then off to the front rows.

Pascow opened. I was seeing the band for the first time, and I was surprised at how modern punk rock can sound. The singer in particular stuck with me: he has a truly unique voice that gives the band's sound a character all of its own. A strong, surprising start to the evening.

After a short changeover, the Donots took the stage — and, as usual, tore the place apart from the very first song. The first pogos and mosh pits didn't take long to appear, the energy picked up instantly, and their set flew by. Anyone who knows the Donots knows: there aren't many live bands with this kind of energy.

After another short drink-and-bathroom break, the moment finally came. Die Toten Hosen walked on and delivered a show unlike any I'd seen from them. Alongside old classics like „Tage wie diese", „Bonnie & Clyde" and „Hier kommt Alex", they also played songs from the current album „Trink aus, wir müssen gehen", among them „Schlechte Nachbarn" and „Lass mal nicht machen". The mix of decades of band history and brand-new material worked perfectly. Between songs, Campino repeatedly took a stand on the current political situation, as he always does — for Die Toten Hosen, attitude belongs on stage just as much as the music.

After around two and a half hours the concert was over — and I couldn't have been happier. It was a thoroughly successful, fantastic evening on which, in the end, everything came together: the location, the organisation, the support acts and a headliner in absolute top form.

Which leaves the question that hung over the whole evening: was it the last time I'll see Die Toten Hosen on stage? Probably. After all, this is the declared final tour. The band members have been on the road almost non-stop for decades and are now well advanced in years — at some point, drawing a line is understandable. The Hosen certainly won't disappear entirely: we'll still catch them now and then at political events or benefit shows. But according to Campino there won't be another big tour or a new regular studio album. All the more reason to be glad I was there, live, for this chapter one more time.
