David Bowie (1947–2016) was a British musician, songwriter and singular artist whose work spans more than five decades. Born David Robert Jones in Brixton, London, he began his career in the early 1960s as Davie Jones before adopting the stage name Bowie to distinguish himself from Davy Jones of The Monkees.

From the glam rock of the Ziggy Stardust era through the „Berlin Trilogy" to his farewell record „Blackstar" (2016), Bowie reinvented himself again and again and shaped generations of musicians. His earliest recordings from the mid-1960s still shed light on the beginnings of one of pop history's most influential careers.
