After the Paris Power Cut — Iron Maiden Complete Their Concert Film at EDDFEST in Knebworth

A total blackout stopped filming mid-set in Paris. Now the metal legends are capturing the missing scenes at their anniversary event EDDFEST in Knebworth — fans from both shows will end up in the film.

It was meant to be the centrepiece of the shoot: on 22 June, in over 40-degree heat, Iron Maiden played Paris' La Défense Arena in front of more than 30,000 people — cameras rolling for a planned cinematic film documenting the "Run For Your Lives" world tour. Roughly 50 minutes into the show, towards the end of "Two Minutes To Midnight", the entire building lost power. The band were only able to resume around an hour later.

Police extended the curfew to 11:35 pm — mindful of the last public transport for the tens of thousands of fans. That left no time for the three planned encores, "Aces High", "Fear Of The Dark" and "Wasted Years".

Rather than scrapping the Paris footage, Iron Maiden are now capturing the missing scenes at EDDFEST — the event marking the band's 50th anniversary on 10 and 11 July at Knebworth Park, their only UK show this year. Band founder Steve Harris announced they would simply finish the job at Knebworth. Singer Bruce Dickinson added that the Paris material will be kept and complemented with footage from Knebworth.

That means fans at both concerts will become part of the finished film. Around the show, visitors can also expect "Maidenville" with Eddie's Dive Bar, a funfair and the new Infinite Dreams Museum, displaying more than 50 original exhibits from nearly 50 years of band history. Friday night is headlined by none other than former Maiden singer Blaze Bayley.
