Down Confirm New Album — Anselmo Teases It at Hellfest 2026
Closing out the Valley stage in Clisson, Phil Anselmo revealed that a new Down album is on the way. It would be the Southern sludge institution's first studio record since 2007.

Down are working on a new studio album — and singer Phil Anselmo announced it where it lands hardest: on stage. At Hellfest 2026 in Clisson, France, the band closed out the festival's final day as headliners of the Valley stage and let the crowd know that new material is on its way. There was no unreleased track that night, though — for that, Anselmo grinned, you'll have to wait for the album.
For the Southern sludge institution from New Orleans it would be their first full studio album since 2007's "Down III: Over The Under". Back in April the band had announced a deal with Nuclear Blast, saying at the time that they were in the final stages of recording.
The Clisson show turned into a show of force: Anselmo, Pepper Keenan and Jimmy Bower took to the stage several times that day — with Scour, Corrosion Of Conformity and Eyehategod — before Down closed the festival with classics like "Lysergik Funeral Procession", "Stone The Crow" and "Eyes Of The South".
