Hand Injury for Charlie Benante — Darby Todd Stepped In for Anthrax
The Anthrax drummer had to sit out nearly a dozen European shows, among them Hellfest and Copenhell. A stand-in who already knew the band took over.

The timing could hardly have been worse: in the middle of a European tour, and only months before the first Anthrax album in a decade, Charlie Benante injured his right hand. On doctor's orders, the drummer sat out the shows from 20 June to 4 July — nearly a dozen dates, among them Hellfest in Clisson, Tons of Rock in Norway, Copenhell in Copenhagen and Resurrection Fest in Spain.
Benante announced it with a brief social media post he himself labelled an "ouch post": he was grateful, he wrote, that Darby Todd would step in behind the kit and keep the shows rolling while he recovered.
Todd was no stranger to the band: the UK session drummer, whose credits include Devin Townsend and The Darkness, had already deputised for Anthrax in Athens on 23 May, when Benante had a scheduling clash with Pantera. Benante's return was planned for 7 July in Lisbon.
Anthrax are currently preparing the release of their twelfth studio album, "Cursum Perficio", due on 18 September. A North American tour alongside Iron Maiden and Megadeth follows in the autumn.
