Jennifer Finch Dead at 59 – L7 Bassist Dies of Brain Cancer
L7 bassist Jennifer Finch has died of an aggressive brain cancer at the age of 59. Her bandmates confirmed the death of the grunge icon.

Jennifer Finch has died. The bassist and co-founder of L7 passed away on July 18, 2026 at the age of 59. Her bandmates announced the news the same day on social media, citing an aggressive form of brain cancer.
Finch was one of the founders of L7, formed in Los Angeles in 1985. Alongside Donita Sparks, Suzi Gardner and drummer Demetra Plakas, she shaped the band's raw sound between punk, grunge and metal. The 1992 album "Bricks Are Heavy" and its single "Pretend We're Dead" brought L7 worldwide recognition.
Only days earlier, the band had shared Finch's cancer diagnosis publicly. She was set to sit out the group's planned farewell tour. On July 18, her bandmates confirmed her death.
Finch left L7 in the late 1990s and returned for the 2014 reunion, touring the world again with the band and appearing on 2019's "Scatter the Rats." In their tribute, her bandmates described Finch as a fearless friend and a cornerstone of the group.
