Jonathan Cain, keyboardist of Journey, has taken a sharp swipe at Bruce Springsteen in a podcast interview. Musicians should keep their politics off the stage, Cain argued – and described the 76-year-old Springsteen as an „annoying, bitter old man" who should „shut up".

Cain framed his stance as a call for unity and for keeping music separate from political messaging. At the same time, the keyboardist is himself openly conservative. He is married to Paula White-Cain, an adviser to U.S. President Donald Trump in the White House Faith Office.

Springsteen has spoken out politically for decades and has recently been critical of the U.S. administration. Supporters of such statements argue that artists have every right to voice their opinions in public – a dispute that has long divided the rock world. There was no immediate response from Springsteen to Cain's remarks.
