Tarja Mourns Bassist Kevin Chown
Kevin Chown, longtime bassist for Tarja Turunen, has died at 56. He had played in her band since 2010, most recently on the album Frisson Noir.

Finnish singer Tarja Turunen is mourning her longtime bassist: Kevin Chown has died at the age of 56. Tarja confirmed his death on her social media channels. According to several reports, Chown died in early July 2026 following a battle with cancer.
Chown had been part of Tarja's regular live and studio ensemble since 2010 and appeared on numerous releases — from „Colours In The Dark" through „The Brightest Void" and „The Shadow Self" to the current album „Frisson Noir", released only in June 2026. He toured Europe and South America with her for years.
Born in Escanaba, Michigan, the musician also played in a range of rock and metal projects, including Steelheart, Artension and Chad Smith's Bombastic Meatbats. He was widely regarded in the scene as a versatile, dependable bassist.
